Be Able To Prioritize

First things first –

Lately, I’ve noticed that between the holiday gatherings and having to attend my grandfather’s services, that I have been scattered beyond words. I’ll admit that I haven’t been able to remember to breathe in between takes but today which is just straining on the body. However, I finally have some time to be able to prioritize what needs to be done. The first and foremost was rest (which luckily, I’ve gotten much of) and the next is to feed my passion which is why I am writing today. To me, being ale to encourage or uplift just one person is fulfilling my passion.

To prioritize can be difficult especially when it feels as if you’ve got a million things going on. I personally want to start on several tasks today but I know that making a list and putting the most important things first will help me. Even though I’ve got heaps of free time today, I know there was a lot of things I’ve put to the back-burner so today, I will alleviate those tasks.

Here are some ways that help me to prioritize and this may help you too, they include:

Asking my inner self – When I have a lot of free time and I don’t know where to start, I ask my inner self, “Self, what needs to be done at this very moment?” And I take a pause and I listen, with an open mind and open heart. This allows you to choose the right action at the right moment. To build this inner-connection with yourself, just be silent and still. Closing your eyes and isolating yourself can help too

My Clear App on my phone and my phone’s calendar – These apps help me to remember what absolutely needs to be accomplished and when it needs to be done. No “if’s” “and” or “but’s” it must get done. Ex.) Paying bills or taking my vitamins.

Clearing my space – Sometimes, I have to clear my desk or room before beginning my tasks for the day. There will be less of a distraction to organize receipts and taking the trash out.

Announce your personal time off – If you live with other people in the household, you can put up a sign outside your door that you’ll be busy for the next 30 minutes or so. Or, you can humbly tell them that you need to catch up on something important and explain to them why you need this time and that you’ll be back in x-amount of minutes or if you’re lucky, hours.

Set a time limit – If you’re at a gathering and you’ve got something else that needs to be done that same day, then limit your engagement to a certain time. You can let the hostess know that you will only be able to stay for a few minutes or hours just so they’ll have a heads-up. Don’t lose track of time or you might end up regretting it when you get home. It’s hard to put restrictions on fun events but you’ll thank yourself when you’ve accomplished your important task(s) and you’re not burnt out come the following week. 

I’m grateful I was able to release some of my hectic-feelings that I’ve had these past weeks. Using my ways to prioritize, I do feel more calm and ready to take on the new year.
